![]() Availabilty of DuVal Books Copies of these books can be found in many large libraries:
An original copy of "The DuVals of Virginia" by Bessie Grabowski and published in 1931 is unavailable to
our knowledge.
"The DuVals of Kentucky from Virginia" by Margaret Buchanan published in 1938 can sometimes still be found.
"Civilizers, the DuVals of Texas" by Roy L. Swift published in 1995 is available from
Amazon Books at a cost of about $33.00 plus shipping.
"Mt. Comfort Plantation" by Richard L. Guild is a "pamphlet" type publication which was privately
printed by Mr. Guild in 1983. Mr. Guild's Mt. Comfort should not be confused with Mt. Comfort, the
Richmond home of Samuel DuVal. The Mt. Comfort of Appomattox was named by
Samuel's DuVal's son in honor of his parent's home, possibly after the original Mt. Comfort was destroyed by fire.
Mr. Guild has advised the Association that Mt. Comfort had been struck by lightening
several years ago and was destroyed by fire. All of the contents including extra copies of his book were lost.
The possibility exists that one could possibly find it in a used book store.
Yet another DuVal book is "A Family History 1559-1979 Jennings / Cornelius / DuVal / Harris / Martin" written
by Mildred King Whitten - An original copy is very difficult to find but the DuVal Family Association has
been able to recently purchase two copies from Mr. Gary Melanson who very kindly contacted Pat Koenig.
